Good question. I come from a generation of Foodies my grandfather was a butcher and people came from far and wide for his meat and black pudding. My mother continued the tradition when she came to England and again people came flocking to buy “Lucy’s black pudding” mother “fed the world”whoever came knocking she fed.
I believe my mother was my inspiration. I was brought up in a kitchen that was always vibrant, bursting with tropical foods and aromatic smells that would make your nostrils sing. Good fresh homemade food greeted us everyday from school and weekends, well we just had feasts and mum fed everyone that knocked at the door.
So feeding and food has always been a passion for me. Family and friends call me the “feeder”. Nothing gives me more pleasure than knowing that my food makes people happy. I have been making sauces of various descriptions for at least two decades.
The fact that my sauce brought so much pleasure and smiles on people’s faces made it so worthwhile despite the hard work. Also being continually encouraged by the feedback I received is a real driver for me. Honestly, who is not happy when they make a person smile. When my son Martin got married about 5 1/2 years ago I made chilli sauce for the reception everyone loved it and the chef on the day suggested I make some for the West Norwood feast. Every bottle 30 of them were sold without much effort on my part because the taste sold the sauce and the feedbacks were very flattering and encouraging like “this needs to be in Sainsbury's “where can we buy this”,“have you considered Dragons Den” and “do you have a website” Whenever there is a family occasions there is an expectation that my sauce and chilli jams will be present and great disappointment is expressed when it is not on the menu “so to speak”.
I love to experiment in my kitchen no matter what I am making. My kitchen is my sanctuary I spend hours a day in it along with my gadgets. Love a gadget!!! Experiments is the key to perfection I believe and creating something that is pleasurable to the pallet is my ultimate aim. Using the freshest organic ingredients and prepared with love. My pepper sauce and chilli jam is made to order by and large unless I am making for an occasion or The Feast.
My goal is a simple one. I strive to make as many people around the world as happy as I can by putting a smile on their face derived from the pleasure of using “Aunt Glo's pepper sauce” Also to put my little Island of birth “Dominica” on the map even though I have not lived there for decades , it is still my birth place.
MY PEPPER SAUCE
What inspired me to start this venture.?
